New Yankee Workshop Episode 1709

In this episode, building a highboy (part one of a two part project), Norm used the following tools:

Items in bold represent the first appearance of that particular tool.

Norm spoke of biscuits but didn't bother cutting any slots. The Dosicol was out but there wasn't a biscuit joiner in sight.

For the first time that I can recall, Norm cut something (dovetails), tried it, and when it didn't fit, took it back to the tool to refine the cut. Maybe that'll take the wind out of the sails of the Norm bashers on the internet.

A new word added to my vocabulary—fylfot which means “four feet” and is the name of the heraldic symbol Norm carved (in Part Two) in the bonnet of the highboy.

The safety speech included video of an operation on the router table (finger slip).

Field trip was to Leigh Keno American Antiques in New York. The Kenos are associated with Morash Productions.

Project filmed 16, 19 September 2004.

This episode was processed based on the original broadcast by PBS.
