Norm has used hand chisels from the beginning. Generally, they have been what I call bench chisels—utility grade, carpenter's chisels such as shown at left. The chisels shown are sometimes called butt chisels as they are often used for motising hinges, commonly called butt hinges or butts.
In later seasons he has started to use some nice Sorby chisels—definitely not carpenter's utilities (left, below).
