Thanks to my friend Rick Bos for several pictures of the P-C 862.

This drill had come and gone (seemingly) before I got a chance to chronicle the episodes it appeared in, and was by then discontinued, supplanted (for the most part) by the 98xx series of cordless drills. Consequently, it was hard to identify and hard to come by a picture until ebay came to the rescue. As it turns out, Norm still uses it periodically, but it is so similar in appearance to the 98xx that I often miss it. In some cases, because of a partial or blocked view, you just can't tell—it could be either. However, I am sorting it all out during my April/May 2007 run-through of all the episodes. It's probably not so difficult when they're side by side, as in this picture, but until you get sorted out with the vertical vents versus the horizontal, and the long single grip pad versus the three stripes, you really can't differentiate the subtle shape differences. And who knows what all the chuck variations are. |
