Not only is this a woodworking tool, but it (or tools similar to it) is used in cooking as well. For example, grating cheese or zesting a lemon. Norm used it for distressing wood in a table in a couple of episodes, but also used it to refine a fair curve on a table leg in the French Side Table episode.
